School System Draws Fire Over Association with the Marines

DeKalb County Georgia plans to open a new school in partnership with with the United States Marine Corps.

As a “choice” magnet school, no students would be forced to attend, but could elect to as an option – an option specifically designed for students who have the ability to get into college, but currently lack the discipline.

Of course this announcement of a school system providing more educational choices for parents has raised the predictable backlash from anti-military groups, with one bozo saying:

“It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in Georgia education” -- Michael Burke

Mr. Burke should, perhaps, take a good, hard look at American education in general and Georgia education in particular before he goes spouting off.

No one’s forcing kindergartners into fatigues here and no one’s handing out automatic weapons to middle schoolers (in some schools, it would be redundant anyway).  This is a choice offered to parents in that school district and it benefits the district, as the Marines would share the costs of the school.
